What to Take on Pony Trek
OUR SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE YOUR TRIP MORE COMFORTABLE

We suggest the following items, to deal with most conditions, particularly if you do the trip to Thabana Ntlenyana that, because of its exposed aspect and altitude, is generally windy and often quite chilly, irrespective of the season.

You want to carry as little weight as possible, so consider packing as lightly as possible.

1) Sleeping bag
2) Thin, lightweight sleeping mat
3) Padded pants as in cycling shorts
4) 2 pairs warm socks
5) 1 x pair of gloves
6) 1 x jeans or khaki pants
7) 1 x long-sleeved t-shirt or such like
8) 1 x t-shirt or shirt
9) 1 x long-sleeved shirt
10) Lightweight wind-breaker or anorak
11) Warm scarf, something to keep the cold and/or wind off your face. I’ve seen this amazing versatile buff at Trappers Trading that is a scarf, bandana, balaclava, head and neck sock, all in one!
12) Don’t forget sunglasses and sun cream!!
13) Food: snacky stuff including fruit for lunch; hi carb food that can be easily prepared at night, maybe one of those ready-to-cook pasta and sauce dishes, cereal bars (easy and convenient) for breakfast. Don’t forget the creature comforts such as coffee/tea/hot chocolate or whatever, it’s easy to prepare and often worthwhile a stop in its own right.

If you are doing a long trek, for your own comfort we would suggest you hire a pack-horse. For only R200 per day it will make all the difference!
