As the current owner of Molumong Lodge, Iam researching the history of the Molumong Trading Station in eastern Lesotho and would very much like to make contact with people who worked there, had family living there as traders, or knew people who were associated with the station.
Built in 1926 by John White-Smith who also operated the Good Hope Trading Station at the bottom of Sani Pass, Molumong was one of a handful of trading stations in the eastern highlands of the former Basutoland.
Apart from being a bustling trading station in its heyday, Molumong also regularly hosted tennis parties and played an important role in the social life of traders at other stations and members of the British Colonial Administration based at Mokhotlong.
I am particularly interested in old photographs that depict its trading activities, and the pursuit of life, leisure and pleasure in the remote Maluti mountains.
